THE DIVORCE

We have been married for over three years and haven’t had a doubt on my husband before, but this very action he’s putting on is what I’m not going to take, I must look him in his face and let him know that I’m furious over that. Linda kept on talking to herself.

On returning back home, she met her husband sitting in the parlor drinking some gens, Linda decided to walk pass him without a word, she snubbed her husband and went in to search for items in her husband’s bag, just to turn round and sees her husband standing beside her.

“What are you searching for in my hand bag?” Philip asked nervously.

Hu! I’m looking for my phone, sorry I forgot it wasn’t here, she startled in deter.

Philip with that obsession he drove out and was trying to get over her wife action, he decided to share what happened with his friend Edem, talking on phone.

“My friend, you can’t believe what I saw my wife doing today, I cought her trying to search my bag when I returned from work, I don’t know whether she is trying to implicate me on something”. You know, one can’t easily trust these ladies especially when they are after divorce like this.

Edem in response I don’t think so, just take it easy on yourself,I believe everything will be okay with time, you really need to sort out things with your wife, mehn, you’re a man.

Philip returned home that afternoon and met his wife again, on seeing her husband, she quickly set a new strategy when he opened the door  “Honey please massage my back I’m feeling some pains in the upper side of my back.” The husband started  the massage and the feelings grew that made them to make  love to each other as they couldn’t hold back their feelings.

Immediately after the intercourse, Linda flair up and was upset with her husband, so they both quarrel each other till the part ways for the day.

Philip on the other hand, was excited that, her wife could take in as he didn’t use any protection when he was with her, so he decided to share the joy with his friend in a joint where they both had sit-out.

Guy guess what! I just made out with my wife and I didn’t used anything like protection so I’m expecting a child soon and if this happens she will not go on with the divorce again,” Philip and his friend laughed out loud.

On returning home, he prepared a meal for Linda who was not yet up from bed, he went on to wake her up from sleeping, his action  looked strange to Linda who was still adamant on divorcing Philip her husband, she taunt him by saying.

“Who is this for, I hope you’ve not poison this food before bringing it here because even if you do, I will still file the divorce paper”.

Philip laughed in a pacify manner.

He then responded Linda by saying, “Babe, my parent are coming to stay for weekend and they just informed me of this, so I think it right to let you know about it now”, Your, parents are doing what !

With fears in her mind, she sounded so feeble,
“Hope you have let them know that we are filing for a divorce, because I won’t be able to pretend as if all is well”?

Well, I haven’t and you have to try and pretend because I think is not yet a right time for me to tell them, Philip pleaded.

Linda, I hope you know what you’re asking for is hard for me to do because I’m not that good at acting?

Yes, I know but you have to, Philip suggested.

Later in the evening that day, Philip parents arrived and they was a knock on the door, it was only Linda that was left home as Philip must have went out for work…

The welcome bell rang twice ,klin! Klin!!

Linda walked up to the door and welcome her mother and father in-law, mama welcome! Papa welcome! She greeted in an infelicitous mood.

They both went into the parlor and were offered a seat, as time was still ticking, Philip returned and met his parent, he welcomed them and immediately lunch was prepared for the entire family, so they moved to the dinning table.

Ruth, Linda’s mother inlaw attested to her delicious meal and same was the father in-law, they all laughed and continued eating, as the meal was on, Ruth, Linda’s mother inlaw paused and asked if she is expecting her grandchild soon as it was what brought her to the city, at this point Linda was devastated and couldn’t continue with her meal again, she left the dinning table to her room .

With the seizure of critical material evidence on how her husband will be a kind being rather than going out to distribute his white stash as usual, Linda pondered till Philip walked in.

“Seriously, you must put on your best till my parent leaves by weekend” , Philip emphatically affirm.

You know how your mother is, she will always get to know why. I need this divorce now than ever, she insisted.

The next morning, Ruth, Linda’s mother in-law called on Linda to present to her an item bought from the village, and to her surprise, it was herbs gathered from  plant stem.

“My darling daughter, this herbs is for you to be taking it in the morning and night, by so doing when your husband go in there, it will click at once and you will take in without wasting of time” Ruth acclaimed.

Ma ma ehh, ask your son, I’m not at fault here , asked your son, Linda got upset and walked out from her mother in-law. She went direct to where the husband was sitting to inform him of his mother’s words and actions.

Babe! babe, (calling) I can’t take this again ooo, can you imagine what your mother said to me. What is it again, what is my mother saying?  Philip asked.

Linda: “She brought out one bottle of herbs like that and asked me to be taking it before being with you, that if I take it I will get pregnant, please tell your mum not to be worrying my life again ooo Because you’re the cause of all this our childlessness, assuming you were not wasting those your white stash with women outside we would have been carrying our babies by now” Linda kept on battling with words.

Philip quickly walked out to meet with his mother after what his wife told him, to be vindicated from all claims of childlessness, he convinced his mother by telling her that Linda is already pregnant.

“Ma ma, can you please allow Linda to be”.

Why? How will I allow her to be when my maids are carrying their own grandchildrens, mind not even one and here you’re telling me to leave her alone, give me a grandchild then. Ruth responded.

“Ma ma, to surprise you, Linda is two months gone already”, What? Are you saying that I will soon be expecting a grandchild, why did you not tell me all this while at least I would have been nice to my daughter in-law. Ruth, responded with a smile in her face.

After departing. Ruth, Linda’s mother in-law went straight to kitchen to prepare a delicacy for her daughter in-law

Ruth started showing her daughter in-law so much love, it was surprising because she hasn’t seen her exhibit such character before. Linda was nervous and was still trying to understand what would make her mother in-law change tremendously overnight.

She approached her husband, Phillip to know what she told his mother that made her start showing some kind gestures toward her.

“I’m not getting it Philip! what did you tell your mother?” She asked bitterly.

“Listen dear there’s so much to say, a thousand words couldn’t help me explain it. I know you’re scared but it won’t be the same as before again, I promise you  this. I only made her to understand that you’re pregnant just to make her get off your neck”, Philip pleaded.

Philip having left confused, walked to his father to have a word with him…
“Father, why is it so hard to understand women?”
Philip’s father; Mr. Thompson in his response, “My Son, don’t you think we have overstayed here? I think I should be going with your mother tomorrow”.

“No! Father, that is not what I mean”.
“My Son, I understand you but we have to leave so that your mother can allow your wife to be because I don’t really know what her own problem is. She has refused to listen to me and even take my advice. I have told her to stop bothering your wife, that only God gives children” Mr. Thompson said.

But son, I  overheardheard the quarrel between you and yourwife not quite long.
Why would you tell your mum that she is pregnant when she isn’t?

Stop mounting pressure on your wife let her be, I believe your children are coming or are you not capable doing your duties in the other room? Mr. Thompson asked his son.

Philip smiled, “Papa, you know what I can do but I just don’t want to do it for now”.

Hmmm, that’s the point, let her be, I will talk to your mother.

Philip and his father after the chat, left where they were sitting.
Unknowingly to them that Ruth, his mother had overheard their conversation.

“Hu! This boy was lying to me, He gave me false hope of carrying my grandchild, no problem,we shall see”. she snapped her fingers.

Ruth went angrily straight to her room, packed her things, so as to return with her husband the next day.

Even on the gloomiest day, the sun rises. Ruth and Mr Thompson returned back to village.

That same morning, Philip went on a sit-out with his friend.

On their arrival. Edem, observed how silent his friend was and decided to know what the issue is!  (He asked)
“My man you haven’t said anything since we came in here, what is it this time around”? Edem asked Philip his friend.

Da! Guy, my mum called me again this morning that she is visiting just after they left to the village the other day. You won’t believe that my mum paid me a surprised visit again this morning,not just that, she came with a lady, and she was saying “That’s your new wife” since Linda is not giving her grandchildren.

Hmm! Wait, are you serious on this? Edem asked repeatedly.

“You’re on soup if this is true”, Edem laughed funnily.

Guy! I’m serious and right now the lady is in my house, my mum left her there, she is at home with my wife right now as we speak Philip affirmed.

Edem; hmmmm my friend “go back to your house I will be coming tomorrow morning to see things myself”.

Philip drove home late that day as they both parted ways. On getting home, he met with the new woman brought from the village by his mother, so he decided to ask her few questions?

Hey! You, what’s that your name?
” I am Lovie” she responded confidently.

Whatever you say your name is, please kindly go in there and pack your things out of my house, I don’t want to have any issues with my wife, I love my wife and that’s what you should know, Philip sounded harshly.

Lovie, on the other hand tried to make her way into Philip’s life, so she welcomed him warmly regardless of his aggressive;  “Honey, I have prepared your meal, and I would love you to come have a taste of it”.

Philip while trying to resist Lovie’s touch of romance and theatrical performance, Linda walked in and all she saw was another woman trying to seduce her husband.
She got upset and went straight to her room.

Philip had to run after his wife Linda.

“Honey! Wait! Please wait! Its not what you’re thinking” He tried to put the situation into  restraint so as not to get things out of hands, Philip started begging his wife, trying to make her understand that he is against his mother’s actions.

(Remember Linda was after divorcing Philip, what could have made her jealous?) 

While their conversation was still going on, the door bell rang! Lovie, quickly approached the door to know who was at the door.
She opened it and it was Edem, Philip’s friend who promised visiting.

“Hey! Welcome”, Lovie sounded so genuine to Edem.
“Thank you! Edem responded with smile, you’re beautiful”. He admonished her.
” Please have a seat, let me call my husband for you” (She didn’t even know Edem is Philip’s best friend).

She walked upstairs to call Philip, and getting to the room she knocked just once before opening, “There is someone waiting downstairs for you”, she snubbed her co-wife after passing the message to the proposed husband. Philip, knew it would be his friend Edem, so he rushed downstairs to meet him. ( Linda was filled with so much fury )

But is she tired of filing for the divorce?

Philip on meeting with Edem in his sitting room.
“Thank God you’re here, that is the lady I told you about yesterday” Philip quickly informed his friend Edem about Lovie in case he will find interest in taking her so that she can leave his place with him(Edem).

Edem, laughed uncontrollably, it became so provocative to Philip so he had to send him out of his house as he was only making mockery out of his statement.

“Guy! Come and leave my house, I’m here discussing something important with you and you’re here making fun out of it.  Do you think this is really funny”? Philip sounded harshly.

Edem in his response “You know where to meet me Mr. Man, we have to put an end to this your family issue, but for now let me be going since you say I should leave your house” He left that day but without getting upset because he understood his friend better.

THE NEXT DAY
Philip called Edem to know where he was so that they can meet to discuss. “Hello bro, meet me at our usual joint” Philip hang-off the call, there after, he drove to where they normally met.

ON ARRIVAL
They went to their usual spot and placed an order, after they were both served, they got into chat trying to resolve the new woman saga, (Philip is passing through a lot at home.)
“I must confess guy, that lady sub, she is very beautiful and you’re here wasting your time, if nah me, I for slimaz am”. Edem sounded as one with immoderate desire.

Philip; Chai!! “I know you nah, but that is not the case here, I need your advise now on what to do”.

“Are you really sure you need my advice.” Edem asked gazing at his friend.

Philip,”I’m not playing guy, advise me on what to do”.

Edem, Alright! “Start getting close to that new lady, and by so doing you’re going to get your wife jealous the more, and if truly she loves you then she will speak up and this divorce saga will end”.

Philip, “This is very interesting, but what if I fall in love with Lovie when trying to get close to her, what will now happen”?

Edem, “You must control your emotions and know that you’re using her to get your wife back don’t go there and mess-up because I know you too well, learn to control those things within your legs.”

Philip, ” Thanks man, I’m delighted and I will do just as you’ve said”. They exchanged good byes and parted  ways.

Philip arrived his house that afternoon and started making advances to Lovie, he demanded that she made food for him as he was hungry, and Lovie gladly did, because she was even waiting for the opportunity.

She made the food and served him, Linda Philip’s wife noticed the changes on  her husband she had to lay her complaint to one lady she met on her way to shopping.

“I’m seriously devastated right now because my husband is treating me as if I no longer exist, what should I do at this point?” She asked Beauty the lady she met at the mall.

Beauty; ” Do you really love your husband?,
“If you do, then fight for it, don’t allow a stranger to scatter your home for you, remember how you built it from the scratch, so stand up and act as one that is affected”. Linda, thanked her and she left the mall.

When she got home, she opened the sitting room door and her husband was gisting with Lovie and did not notice her.

She felt the pains and went straight to her room, started crying and couldn’t hold it but to walked down the stairs again to interfere in their discussion.

“Honey, I want to see you upstairs now”, Linda sounded authoritatively.

Philip knew how jealous his wife was so he followed her immediately, to hear from her.

“Philip, why are you doing this to me? I’m not comfortable with that lady been around you” Linda talked calmly.

Philip in his response;  “Honey! to be honest with you, my lawyer has finished preparing the document and all the divorce papers are set, he will be bringing it tomorrow for you and I to sign, so that all this drama can come to an end”.

Linda was left speechless and all she could do was to cry herself out.

The next morning, they all prepared and waited for their family lawyer to arrive; the door bell rang, and Lovie attended to it, but to Linda’s surprised it was her father and mother in-law and not the lawyer.

They both walked into the sitting room and were all greeted by everyone but Linda was scared of what the out come would be so, she greeted them in a very low tone.

“Welcome papa and mama, I am glad this day has finally come, I will love my mother to say a word as she is the convener of this meeting”, Philip stated.

Ruth the mother in-law to Linda and Philip’s mother stood up to address the family “I must say that I’m happy to see Linda, my daughter in-law love her husband back again, Lovie here was paid by me to help bring peace and love among the two of you.

I overheard you told your husband once that you are filing a divorce paper and that he should not let us know about it,  that you won’t be able to continue in the marriage.

I kept on observing the both of you while I was here but all I saw was pretence and lies so I decided to do this just to bring the both of you together again, so Lovie, has nothing to do with your husband, it was just to know if you truly wanted the divorce.

Linda couldn’t hold herself, she cried and pleaded the mother in-law and father in-law to forgive her, she hugged her rival(Lovie)  and also appreciated her for making her to understand more about love and realize her mistakes.

She apologized to her husband and everyone gave each other a warm embrace. Linda and Philip went about their normal lives and lived  happily as when they met each other.

Few months later, Linda took in and when it was time she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, the child brought peace, joy and happiness to Philip and his parents.

The both lived happily devoid of fight and pains.
